I spent last weekend in Franschhoek and stayed at Gable Manor, one of the many B&B establishments in the Western Cape town. My spacious room had air-conditioning and satellite TV, the bed sheets were pure cotton and a towelling bathrobe was laid on my bed at night. All this for a fraction of the cost of a five-star hotel, with the added advantage that the breakfast was cooked to order. The owners of Gable Manor haven't experienced any fall-off in foreign tourism, judging by their visitors' book. That's the difference between value and cheap.
